South Africa’s Melissa Eaton claimed a top 20 finish at the $22,500 Four Winds Invitational in South Bend, Indiana on Sunday to further cement her top 10 ranking in the Symetra Tour’s Volvik Race for the Card.
The former KwaZulu-Natal golfer, who lives in Texas these days with her husband Billy, carded rounds of 74-69-70 the Blackthorn Golf Course for a three-under-par 213 total and a share of 20th on the final leaderboard.
Fellow South Africans Ashleigh Simon (74-73) and Ulrika van Niekerk (78-76) missed the cut, set at two over 146.
Four Winds International winner Cydney Clanton needed seven play-off holes before she finally defeated fellow Americans Marissa Steen and Marina Alex for the title.
Last season, Eaton played made five cuts in nine events with a best finish a tie for 14th at the Island Resort Championship. With 10 cards for the 2014 LPGA on the line for the top 10 players in this year’s Volvik Race for the Card, Eaton is well placed for automatic exemption.
Having claimed her first title earlier this season at the Florida Natural Charity Classic, she currently ranks fifth with earnings of $23,308.
A former Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation member, Eaton attended the Louisiana State University on a golf scholarship with her twin sister, Nicola (Nikki), where she completed a marketing degree.
She turned pro in 2008 and, after four years on the graduation Tour, looks set to take the leap to the LPGA Tour at the end of the 2013 season.
