Simone Ackerman, Anika Visser, Kirsty Weir, and Linsay Engelbrecht top performed at the 2022 African Triathlon Cup Nelson Mandela Bay in Gqeberha.
South Africa’s Ackerman dominated the swim portion of the women’s elite race to win gold in 02:08:13 at Hobie Beach.
Coming in second place, Tanja Stroschneider of Austria won silver in the gruelling race, which involved a 1500m swim, 40km bike ride, and 10km run. Behind her in third, Shanae Williams claimed the bronze medal in 02:11:00.
In the junior race, the Visser sisters – Anika and Nadine – claimed a first and second finish with Mia van der Veen in third (01:14:33), to complete an all-South African podium finish.
Para-triathletes Kirsty Weir and Lindsay Engelbrecht earned gold medals in their respective categories. Weir finished first in the PTS 5 category in 01:24:53, while Lindsay triumphed in the VI 13 in 01:27:20.
