Banyana Banyana head coach, Desiree Ellis and SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan have joined South Africans in mourning the passing away of former national women’s team player, Makhosini Luthuli.
Luthuli passed away following her long battle with cancer on Tuesday, 17 November 2020.
The former Banyana star hung up her boots in 2006 after eight years playing for the women’s senior national team and was part of the crop of players that played in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
Ellis, who played with Luthuli, expressed fond memories of the player, remembering her as a hard worker.
“She was always smiling, a hard worker and very dedicated to serving the team.
“We have lost an honest and principled individual. May her soul rest in peace,’’ added the Banyana Banyana coach.
“We have lost a legend, one of the pioneers of women football following our readmission into the FIFA family,’’ added Dr Jordaan.
