Favour Ofili set a national record in the women’s 200m race finishing first and returning a time of 21.96 seconds at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic at James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.
Ofili’s victory broke Blessing Okagbare’s previous national record of 22.04 seconds
The 19-year-old’s blistering 21.96 makes her the first collegian athlete to ever go sub 22 secs and the first Nigerian woman athlete to go below 22 secs in the women’s 200m.
She also ran the second-fastest 400m of any woman in African history and claimed the 2022 world lead in the process.
