Four Nations Bronze for Brave SA

by | Jun 16, 2008

The SPAR SA Women’s Hockey team walked away with the bronze
medal after beating the host country Ireland,
2 – 1 in the 3rd and 4th playoff match at the Setanta 4
Nations Women’s Hockey Tournament, in Dublin,
Ireland on
Monday.

The South Africans bounced back after trailing 0 -1 at the
halftime break, through a well-worked penalty corner that saw a pin-point hit
from Cindy Brown find Captain Marsha Marescia for the deflection. In the 54th
minute a good mid-field attack had Tarryn Bright netting, to seal the deal for
the South African team.

SPAR SA created various goal scoring opportunities that
went astray, and they’ll know that coach Jenny King will expect a better
performance when the teams meet again on Wednesday the 18th of June,
for a two match series.

After the series in Ireland
the team will travel to Amsterdam in Holland to compete in the 4 Nations Women’s Trophy against
Great Britain, India and the Netherlands.
