Fun Run Supports Olympic Values

The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) will be hosting the Olympic Day Run on Saturday 24 November 2007, to celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and aims at spreading Olympic values among people.

The event will be hosted in conjunction with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. Almost 2500 children have already registered to take part in the 5 kilometre Fun Walk/Run, and a few National Federations will demonstrate their sport.

The IOC requested National Olympic Committees (NOC’s) to plant Olive trees as part of a project to restore hope at Olympia during the fire disaster. SASCOC will be planting an olive tree at the host school and will present more trees to other participating schools as part of the project.

The details of the event are as follows:
Date: 24 November 2007
Time: 07h00
Venue: Maphanzela Primary School, Thokoza, Ekurhuleni
