Gale force winds made conditions difficult for contestants on the second day of competition at the O’Neill SA Open of Surfing but there was still some excellent surfing in the 4- 6 foot which pushed through Nahoon Reef in East London throughout the day.

One of the pre-contest favourites and 2007 SA Junior Team member Nikita Robb was a surprise elimination in the quarter finals of the Women’s Division, and will join her fellow East London surfer Alice McGregor as a spectator at the Finals on Sunday.

On Monday Robb will travel to Portugal, for the ISA World Junior Championships with the other members of the SA Junior Team.

Through to the semi-finals in the 2A-rated Women’s Division are defending champion Stacey Guy, event top seed Sarah Maritz, former World Championship Tour surfer Heather Clark, Tasha Mentasti, Bronwyn Coote, Tammy Lee Smith, O’Neill wildcard Caylin de Reuk and Telana Flanagan.

The O’Neill SA Open of Surfing, which is proudly presented by Surfing South Africa and hosted by Border Surfriders Association, ends at Nahoon Reef at about midday, on Sunday 29 April.

Full daily results are posted on the Surfing South Africa website.
