Local hero, Georgia Erasmus was the star of the show as Free State were the only team to win all their matches at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Girls Under-19 Week that was held in Bloemfontein this past week.
Erasmus scored in each of the four matches played by the hosts to help them overcome Mpumalanga by 9 wickets, Easterns by 117 runs DLS), Northern Cape by 5 wickets and KEI 6 wickets, while she also scored 35, 40, 20 and 20 respectively.
She was supported with the ball by the likes of Chane Lang, Karabelo Masiela and Anke Koen showing some team effort.
Amongst the other teams, there were three wins apiece by the Eastern Cape and Border and Western Province.
Bowler, Megan Fourie (4/11) proved a key factor for Eastern Province in a 48-run win over KwaZulu-Natal Inland, while Noluyolo Mkhaliphi recorded 2/4 to help down KZN Coastal by 61 runs.
Lana Von Hagen (3/7) played an important role in three-run triumph, over Limpopo. For Border, Siyahluma Mabombo blasted 40 and 46 respectively in wins over Garden Route Badgers and Limpopo, while Liyema Jubati took a superb 2/5 in a 20-run win over Mpumalanga.
The first of the Western Province wins were built around Sineliso Yaso after she hit 31(42) in their fighting two-wicket triumph over Lions on the opening day. She also made 19 in their loss to Titans, but it was Alexia Kontopirakis who helped them bounce back from that loss with the figures of 5/7 in a 10-wicket drubbing of KZN Inland.
Their other win over Limpopo was built around Jada Jacobs’ 23(17) and another exceptional bowling performance of three overs, three maidens and one wicket by Rifqah Esau. Although Titans did not win all their games, their batter, Amogelang Maphangula struck the highest score of the week 65(69)– in a 117-run win over KZN Inland.
