The 2006 O’Neill SA junior Championships kicks off today for girls in the under 12, under 14, under 16 and under 18 age groups, representing teams from eight provinces.
Apart from personal ambitions, provincial teams are also competing for the Freedom Cup, which was won by Western Province in Strand last year.
Yesterday thirty-six of the 23 heats were completed on day one in testing 3-4 foot surf, as the boys kicked off the tournament at New Pier and Dairy Beach in Durban.
The tournament ends with the finals in the eight divisions on Sunday.
