Simoné Kruger is well acquainted with being a part of the gsport family as she was a finalist in the 2023 Momentum gsport Awards. She was nominated in the Brand SA Para Sport Star category which was eventually won by Kgothatso Montjane.

With the #gsport19 campaign underway, there are just a few days left before nominations for the 2024 Awards close and Kruger says being part of such an amazing group of women can only inspire others to want to be there too.

“It (being nominated) is inspirational to other women and inspires them to work hard and to maybe even be on that stage one day to receive an award.”

Kruger can also speak about the #PowerOfRecognition as she is now known as one of the top para-athletes as she has broken numerous records consistently over the past few years. The 19-year-old says she hopes that her achievements serve as an inspiration for other women who are looking to make their goals a reality.

“To be recognised for my achievements means that I can inspire women to work hard to also achieve their goals, just like millions of women who are already doing that. It also raises awareness about women’s sport.”

gsport recently celebrated it’s 18th birthday when a host of women in sport and sportswomen commemorated the big milestone in Johannesburg with founder Kass Naidoo and members of the gsport team. Kruger says being invited to such a celebration made her grateful and proud.

“gsport has always given me recognition as a woman in sport for my achievements over the years. It was inspiring being part of the birthday celebrations and seeing women being recognised to do what they love and also being role models for the future generation.”

Staying with phenomenal achievements, Kruger is well accustomed to not just breaking records but she continues to raise the bar in her sports. Earlier this year she won the gold medal in the Women’s Discus Throw at the Kobe 2024 World Para Athletics Championships where she broke her own 2023 world record.

Spoken like a true champion Kruger is looking to make more history at the upcoming Paralympics in Paris later this year.

“I want to break the world record and bring the gold medal home but on the day it will be God’s plan and not mine. I will still give it my all in the competition.”

She says she is pleased with her overall preparations but there is a lot of hard work ahead as she intends to be at her optimal fitness for the Paralympics.

“My preparations for the Paralympics are going well. I still have to work hard and train hard over the next few weeks but I am getting closer every day to have a really good competition.”

“Every day we want to take it one step at a time because we want to make sure that I peak at the right time”, she added.
