2021 Momentum gsport Awards recipients, Kgothatso Montjane and Tatjana Schoenmaker, stood out once again, winning at the recent Gauteng Sports Awards.

Sports personalities gathered at Gallagher Convention Centre on Saturday, 13 November 2021, to celebrate the achievements of South African sports stars.

#gsport16’s Sasol Global Woman in Sport and Brand SA Para Sport Star winner, Kgothatso Montjane, was named Disabled Sportswoman of the Year. “I don’t know how I’m feeling honestly; I wasn’t expecting this.”

“I am really honoured because events like this are very important for us as athletes, and it’s important for us athletes to show up because we really want to inspire the young generation so that we can value this award. I’m just grateful for this award.” – Gauteng Sports Awards Disabled Sportswoman of the Year, Kgothatso Montjane

“What makes a great athlete is their determination and their courage to just keep on going despite all the challenges because it’s challenging on the field but you just keep your head up and keep on going despite the challenges.”

Montjana shared advice to young, up and coming athletes on how to break records and reach their goals: “Their dreams are valid and at the same time dreams don’t come true through magic, you need to work hard.”

gsport Ministerial Recognition of Excellence Recipient, Tatjana Schoenmaker, was named Gauteng Sportswoman of the Year.

Her coach, Rocco Meiring, received the award on her behalf saying: “I am very proud of her and I’m very happy that she could give the youth of South Africa hope to achieve their dreams.”

MEC Mbali Hlophe was present at the awards and shared her thoughts on the event: “The past 20 or so months have been difficult for all in the sporting industry, especially the athletes and those who help them train. Therefore, it has been a pleasure and privilege to again be able to reward our stars of today and tomorrow.

“Athletes are inspirational and make a big difference in uplifting society, and for that they need to be recognised and rewarded. We wish to congratulate all winners and finalists in this year’s Gauteng Sport Awards,” she concluded.
