Rwanda won the 9th edition of the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament at Rwanda Cricket Stadium on Sunday, 18 June 2023.
After nine years, the host nation finally secured the title on home soil after a 6-wicket victory over Uganda Women.
Rwanda won the toss and elected to bowl first. Uganda went on to post 65 runs before they were all bowled out in the 20th over.
The eventual winners had previously never beaten Uganda in any tournament since the game of cricket was introduced in the country 20 years ago.
Chasing 66 to win, Rwanda concluded the match in 16 overs, winning by 6 wickets.
Speaking after the match, captain Diane Bimenyimana, said: “As I said before the tournament, I had a feeling that this was going to be our turn to finally win this tournament. We just didn’t start quite well but, after sitting down to look at how we can fix where things weren’t going well, especially in batting, we came back strong.”
