Tunisian star tennis player Ons Jabeur became the first African woman to reach a Grand Slam final on Thursday, 7 July 2022.
Jabeur currently ranked world number two defeated her close friend Tatjana Maria 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in the Wimbledon semi-final round to book herself a spot in the final.
The 27-year old will face Elena Rybakina, who managed to secure a 6-3, 6-3 victory over 2019 champion Simona Halep.
Jabeur and Rybakina will go face-to-face in Saturday’s championship match at 15h00 CAT.
“It’s a dream come true from years of work and sacrifice. I’m happy that it has paid off and I’ll continue for one more match,” said Jabeur after her victory.
“I know in Tunisia they are going crazy right now. I want to see more Arab and African players on tour. I love the game and I want to share the experience with them,” she concluded.
