2007 Transnet Port Terminals Border Ladies Golf Champion Lizelle Muller’s absence means that the Provincial title awaits the 2008 winner.

With 2007 champion Lizelle Muller not defending her title, the Transnet Port Terminals Border Ladies Golf Championship is wide open for a number of hot prospects to lay claim to the Eastern Cape’s most illustrious title, which kicks off on Sunday 16th at West Bank Golf Course in East London.

Many top order of merit Women’s Golf SA players confirmed their entries to the title, including Gauteng talents Tandi Cuningham and Mercia Pretorius, both scratch handicaps, North West scratch golfer Nicole Bekker, while KwaZulu-Natal’s Pam Hayward will be playing off a 1, and Western Province’s Dominique Jacobs, off a 2 handicap, has tossed her cap into the ring.

The tournament kicks off with a 36-hole Strokeplay played on Sunday with the prize-giving on the same evening, while the Matchplay follows on Monday and Tuesday, with the matchplay prize-giving taking place after the finals on Tuesday.

An encouraging entry of 24 players in the 0 – 9 division, 14 in the 10 – 18 division and 16 in the 19 – 30 division will be seen in action, including entries from 8 different provinces, while six SAGDB girls will joining some of the Border up-and-coming juniors. Championship organisers have advised that despite entries having closed on 11 March, late entries will be considered on application.

The generous sponsorship by Transnet Port Terminals (previously the SA Port Operations) of the tournament for the third year running to the tune of R10 000 has once again enabled the full sponsorship of the SAGDB girls for the tournament.

Strong competition is expected from Tandi Cuningham, who placed third in the recent Nedbank Eastern Cape Championship, who will be up against third-placed Pam Hayward, Nicole Bekker (fourth) and Dominique Jacobs (fifth). This all makes for an exciting day on Sunday!

Leadingi Border contenders include Millie Zim, Angela Trollip, Siviwe and Yolanda Duma, who are currently part of the Ernie Els Foundation, and Louise van Niekerk.
