World no.1 Iga Swiatek beat Jessica Pegula to successfully defend her trophy at the 2023 Qatar Total Energies Open on Saturday, 18 February.
Swiatek dropped only five games throughout the competition to defend her crown.
She secured herself a straight sets victory of 6-3, 6-0 over no.2 seed, Pegula.
This is Swiatek’s first WTA Tour Title of the year and the 12th of her career overall.
Swiatek said in her press conference after the win: “I am really happy that I could kind of find more balance, comparing to how I felt at the beginning of the season.”
“I think this tournament is going to give me a lot of confidence, but still I want to take everything step-by-step. I am just really happy that I could win this match today,” She concluded.
