Christine Mboma concluded a phenomenal season with a breathtaking display in the 200m race at the Kip Keino Classic in Kenya.
Mboma shattered the last 50m to startle Marie Josée Ta Lou, who had started the race well, as the Namibian sprinter won her 8th race of the season in 22.39 seconds.
Ta Lou closely followed behind in 22.98 while Nigerian, Seyni Aminatou, settled for a third-place finish in 23.33 seconds.
The teenager was happy to have won the race at Moi International Sports Center, saying: “I am happy to return to Kenya and running on the same track where I broke the U-20 world record. I only started competing in the 200m this year and I am happy with the progress I have made. And during the season break, I will be working on my technique.”
Meanwhile, Kenyan double Olympic women’s 1500m champion, Faith Kipyegon, earned an expected and well-appreciated victory in 4 minutes 02.40secs.
All African Games gold medalist, Vanice Kerubo Nyagisera, won the women 400m hurdles event in 59.05 seconds.
Two-time World Championship finalist, Alina Rotaru, who was the favourite to win the women’s long jump found the going tough finishing 8th in an event that was won by Kenya’s Petronilla Mwombe with 5.61m.
World Under-20 steeplechase champion, Celliphine Chespol, conquered in the 3000m event in 9 minutes 30.55 seconds.
In an all-Kenyan field, Maureen Thomas won the 400m event in 54.96 seconds closely followed by Mercy Adijah in 55.51 seconds.
