The Africa Cares Women’s Tennis Challenge will host some of the best players, including local star Isabella Kruger at DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg from 3-4 December 2022.
As Kruger headlines the two-day tournament, she will be joined by Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, Sloane Stephens from United States, Karolina Pliskova from Czech Republic and Francesca Jones from United Kingdom.
The 17-year-old Kruger has had her fair share of international exposure as she battled past Poland’s former World no. 29 Urszula Radwanska to secure her spot in the second round of the Tuks International ITF World Tennis Tour W60 tournament.
Jabeur won her biggest title to date at the 2022 Madrid Open, a WTA 1000 event, becoming the first Tunisian and Arab player to win at this level.
Stephens, an American tennis professional has five singles titles to her name, including her first major at the 2017 US Open.
Pliskova known for her powerful serve and forehand, has won 16 singles and five doubles titles on the WTA tour will also showcase her skills on the courts, as well as the 22-year-old Jones from United Kingdom will join the stars, having won six ITF singles titles.
In support of women’s tennis, the women will demonstrate their speed, technique, and entertaining playing style.
The tournament was supposed to take place in 2021 but had to be postponed due to the omicron variant outbreak.
