We are delighted to announce an exciting partnership between Balderstone Sports Institute (BSI) and JVW Girls Football, to provide a full-time high performance football academy with education, for talented and dedicated high school aged girls.

The partnership brings together two of South Africa’s most innovative sports companies to promote the growth of girls’ football and provide a comprehensive academy structure to prepare the nation’s most promising young players for international careers.

BSI will provide the high school education component of the programme through the BSI Study Centre, which offers the Cambridge International Education curriculum exclusively for student-athletes.  The modern and flexible education method used in the BSI Study Centre allows far more time for sports training and competitive play than tradition schooling methods.

The football training will be conducted by JVW’s specialist female coaching team, offering a dedicated training schedule 5-days a week.  The girls will have the opportunity to play for JVW Football Club amongst some of the most talented players in South Africa.  Additional services are available to the players through BSI’s sports science department.

The JVW Girls Football Development Program was founded in 2012 by the South African Senior Women’s National Team captain, Janine van Wyk. Janine is currently the highest capped footballer in South Africa.

Speaking about the partnership, Janine stated, “I am extremely excited to share all my knowledge and experiences to help young athletes prepare for their life journey to become a pro athletes – both mentally and physically. The youth of today are our stars of the future and I believe we need to do whatever it takes to help develop their skills and abilities by offering them first-class coaching!

I seek to instil a love for the game and an environment where each player is encouraged and motivated on a daily basis to participate and give their best according to their ability. By taking part in quality daily training sessions, and experiencing a professional atmosphere in personal development, young athletes will be ensured future success.”

BSI Founder Michael Balderstone added, “We’re excited to partner with JVW on this initiative. We want to encourage more girls to play sports, and to provide a high-performance environment for those with talent and commitment to reach their potential.  Our goal through this programme is to open up multiple international pathways for the girls, whether on the playing side, through academic channels or both.  JVW do such great work for girls’ football and we look forward to assisting them on their mission in this regard.”

BSI was founded in 2004 and specialises in training, educating and nurturing talented young athletes across multiple sporting codes.  BSI has trained and educated hundreds of student-athletes to success around the world, including many national representatives, international winners and a few world champions.

The programme is available for grades 8 to 12.  Enrolment for 2021 is open now.  Contact [email protected] to apply.
