I am a self-confessed Internet junkie, spending large parts
of my day devouring online news of all kind, but mainly sport. It’s often
difficult to convince me to take a holiday where there is no Internet access.
The thought of not being able to log on to gsport is unbearable. And then last
week Thursday, the worst thing happened, gsport had been hacked again, this
time seriously!

The site was taken down as a security caution for close on
three hours as the experts worked away furiously, and we still didn’t know how
bad the situation was. I logged on every 10 minutes to check, and … access
denied. I started realising just how attached I have become to gsport. While
cooking supper, I heard that the site was back up, and everything was okay. It
was a huge relief…

April is always an interesting month because it’s like a
second chance to get the year started, and it presents an opportunity to get
our act together. For some women, that means putting on their running shoes,
and hitting the road, for others it could be listening to their own voice and
following their dreams, and for the rest, it could just mean putting in a
little more effort into getting the job done.

gsport’s April theme of Responsibility hasn’t been easy to work with, because it’s a
constant reminder that its time to get my life back in order. But by the time
winter is upon us, I will be thankful for getting back to gym, going to the
dentist, and completing those "things to do" lists.

For a large number of women, April signifies the business
end of their training programme for the Comrades Marathon. It’s just over two
and a half months before the popular ultra marathon, and if you’re serious
about doing well, you must be working hard right now.

I was interested to hear that gsport’s April 2008 Style
Star, popular 5fm deejay Koula, will be running her second Comrades Marathon on
17 June this year. She plans to run 120km a week in April, preparing for the
grueling challenge. I admire her strength and focus. Its one of my life goals,
to run the Comrades at least once!

I have started exercising daily again, drinking more water,
and eating sensibly (well, most of the time…), and I already feel better for
it. I am thinking of taking up something new – a painting class, pilates, yoga…
who knows! All I know is that it’s a great time to take stock of my life…

… and start another round of checks for vulnerabilities
which hackers can use to shut the site down. I know that when one of my
favourite sites is down, life’s just not the same! So maybe now’s the best time
for a thorough shakedown of nasties hanging around…

Until next time!
