Kaylia Nemour Wins Gold at the 2023 African Artistic Gymnastics Championships

Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour was the star of the show at the 2023 African Artistic Gymnastics Championships that were held at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria from 25-27 May.

Nemour claimed gold in the Women’s Artistic Individual All-Round after missing out on last year’s competition in Egypt. Joining Nemour on the podium was South Africa’s Caitlin Rooskrantz after claiming sliver, alongside Jana Abdelsalam of Egypt who took the bronze.

Both Nemour and Rooskrantz were in serious contention. The results of the all-round second and third rotation ended with Nemour leading the charge, followed by South African duo, Caitlin Rooskrantz and Naveen Daries. The final rotation saw defending champion, Rooskrantz remain in second and Daries missing a podium position by a close margin, ultimately giving Abdelsalam the opportunity to climb one spot up the table and claim bronze.

Out of the eight nations that competed in the women’s artistic gymnastic competition, Team South Africa were able to maintain their lead throughout the competition and eventually claim gold. This result means South Africa automatically qualify for the World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, that will take place later this year. While silver and bronze medallists, Egypt and Algeria will have to send individual gymnasts.
