Gary Shean reports on the goings-on of his sister, golfing ace Kelli Shean, currently on a sports scholarship at the Arkansas University’s Lady Razorback Golf Team, also known as the Hogs:
The Hogs arrived back home in Fayetteville with a new team member: some silverware. Taking part at the UA Am Rhoads Intercollegiate held at the North River Golf Course in Tuscaloosa, Arkansas fielded the same team that for the last three events, namely Stacey Lewis, Kelli Shean, Lucy Nunn, Alex Schulte and Kristen Ingrim.
Other teams taking part in this even included fifth ranked Florida, 19th ranked Notre Dame, 15th ranked Alabama and 26th ranked Louisiana State.
With condition not really suited for great golf, the team played their three rounds in very wet and windy conditions.
Shean had a pretty awful start to the event, but came back on day two by posting the lowest score of the day for both Arkansas and the event. This indeed helped Arkansas increase their lead going into round three.
Finishing on 886, Arkansas claimed victory with Stacey Lewis, the US number one ranked Amateur taking the individual title, her second in a row.
Arkansas are currently ranked 6th after a 3rd place finish in Kentucky, a 3rd in Tennessee, a 4th in California and now, a win in Alabama.
Shean now has a 6 weeks stretch of school before returning home in December, after which she’ll be heading back to America, as she and Arkansas return to the links late in February at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
