SPAR Proteas will play their first game of the Vitality Netball Nations Cup on Sunday, 19 January 2020, against Jamaica’s national netball team, ‘Sunshine Girls’. The SPAR Proteas have just come from a successful run at the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup, where they moved one up in the netball world rankings.
Going into this match, there are several key players that head coach Dorette Badenhorst will be banking on. One of them being the 2019 World Cup player of the tournament; Karla Pretorius who returns to the SPAR Proteas squad. The Goal Defence and Wing Defence playmaker was an eyecatcher throughout the World Cup and is expected to carry on with her stellar performance on Sunday.
Zanele Vimbela, who is signed to UK’s Strathclyde Sirens, is anticipated to bring her A-game as goalkeeper. Her ever-growing career as a netball player will have her staying in the UK as her season with the Sirens begins in February.
Underneath the poles, Goal Shooter, Lenize Potgieter is another player to look out for. With her sharp shooting skills and quick feet, the SPAR Proteas are sure to secure several goals throughout the tournament.
With captain Bongiwe Msomi leading her team and adding in her vast experience, the SPAR Proteas are sure to produce incredible results and continue with their preparations ahead of the 2023 Netball World Cup that will be held in Cape Town South Africa.
The SPAR Proteas’ match against Jamaica will be played in Nottingham and can be watched live on SuperSport 10 (Chanel 210) at 16:30.
