Cox, South Africa’s most recognised sportswoman, has signed an undisclosed multi-year deal that encompasses both monetary compensation and product support.
To mark her contribution to the sport, Kookaburra will launch a personalised Marsha Cox hockey stick, the Marsha#8, which will go on sale at all major sports equipment retailers from 10th January 2014.
Chris Bryant, Marketing Director at Kookaburra, said it was only fitting to honour Cox in this way following continuous successes on the pitch, including her becoming the first South African to win 300 international caps. Mr Bryant said the company was very excited to continue its relationship with the SA hockey icon.
“Marsha has been a pioneer for hockey in South African and indeed on the continent. She has led and continues to lead her country with grit and determination both on and off the field. She’s proven to be an outstanding ambassador for women’s sport and we see her as a key partner to our brand,” said Mr Bryant.
After a successful effort at the World Championships, Cox has set her sights on the Commonwealth Games and is focussed on leading her team as far as they can go in the tournament.
“It is really good to know that my love for the sport is being recognised in this way – it’s not every day that you have your own personalised stick manufactured for you.
“More importantly though is that this partnership is a reflection of just how serious Kookaburra is about supporting women in sport. It’s a real boost to me both on and off the field.
