Around 70 influential women in cricket (see selected pictures below) were honoured yesterday for their role in making the men’s game such a success this summer.
Behind our great cricket team stand an amazing bunch of women, and in South Africa they’re carving niche for themselves in every sphere of the game.
From CEO’s of cricket unions, to commentators, writers, photographers, marketers, and scorers, their successes are evident.
Elize Lombard from Northerns Cricket is the only woman Cricket CEO in South Africa, Jane Bramley from SAPA is the most syndicated cricket writer in the country, and SABC Sport’s Keletso Totlhanyo is the broadcaster of the entire broadcast feed that is used worldwide.
The lunch, hosted by Standard Bank, the Proteas ODI team sponsor, was also attended by some of South Africa’s favourite celebrities, including Yfm’s Unathi Nkayi, Morning Live’s Leanne Manas, 5fm’s Nicole Fox.
Over a scrumptious lunch at Hazeldene Hall in Johannesburg, these amazing women had a chance to reflect on some of reasons for women in cricket to celebrate.
The lunch was hosted by gsport editor, Kass Naidoo, and the truly delightful Sue de Groot, from The Wisden Cricketer Magazine, was guest speaker.
Launched in 2006, gsport exists to enhance the commercial prospects of our women athletes, and other women in sport, by telling the inspiring story of SA women in sport. Thank you for your contribution!
