South Africa’s reigning hammer throw champion Leandri Geel broke the SA hammer throw record at the Athletics South Africa Grand Prix 2 Continental Tour Challenger at Germiston Stadium in Ekurhuleni on Wednesday, 19 April 2023.
Geel put up a winning distance of 66.1m, while Zahra Tatar followed in second place with a distance of 63.05m and Marga Cumming in third with 61.92m.

On the track, Zeney van der Walt top performend yet again in the 400m hurdles event, grabbing first place in 0:55.28s. Van der Walt was followed by Taylon Bieldt with a time of 0:56.63s and Rogail Josephs rounding up the top three in 0:56.73s.
Elsewhere, Reabetswe Moloi bettered her season’s best of 11:68s in the 100m race with a winning time of 11:65s. Boipelo Tsheme crossed the finish line in second place in a time of 11:86s and Rose Xeyi in third place in 11.89s.
