Springbok Women’s hooker Lindelwa Gwala has signed for Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club ahead of the 2023/24 Premier Women’s Rugby season, as announced on Wednesday, 19 July.

The 25-year-old has 25 caps for the Women Boks and was included in the Rugby Africa Cup squad that won the series to qualify for the upcoming WXV2.

According to the club’s website Gwala’s selection follows from her performance during the Women’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

Gwala is currently playing The Sharks Ladies in the Women’s Premier Division League and off the field, she is pursuing a BSc in strength and conditioning.

Speaking on her appointment, Gwala said on Trailfinders website: “Joining Trailfinders is such a thrill for me.

“The idea of being so far from home is out of my comfort zone but I know that my game will grow and that excites me. I’m looking forward to learning more about the lovely game of rugby as well as learning more about myself.”

Women’s Director of Rugby, Giselle Mather said: “Lindelwa is a strong, dynamic, and experienced athlete with a huge presence on and off the field.

“As a powerful ball carrier and scrummager, coupled with excellent arrows at the lineout, she will make a statement in the PWR league. We can’t wait to see the impact she will make in the Trailfinders squad. Welcome aboard Lindelwa!”
