Lisa Baumann and Moyra Sheard of Team Nature Conservation Corporation were crowned champions in the women’s open category of the inaugural ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance on Sunday, 10 May 2009 in Kleinmond.
Team Nature Conservation Corporation continued their winning streak on the last day to cross the finish line in first place after having won both previous stages of the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun.
According to Baumann, the route was really tough. "I am really thankful to Moyra for pushing and motivating me throughout the race. The route was really tough today with a serious up hill followed by a really technical descent. Both Moyra and I come from a road running background, so we really didn’t expect to win.
"The ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun is a fantastic concept as the distances and the routes are manageable and the scenery is absolutely awesome," says Baumann. Team Nature Conservation Corporation completed the three-day stage race in a mind-blowing 08hours52mins10secs.
Team Jelly Babes came in second, while Team Hell’s Angels finished third.
Team Whiley-X Suunto placed first in the mixed open team category, while Team Jeep finished second and Team Love/Hate finished third.
The action-packed ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance debuted in Kleinmond on Friday, 08 May 2009 and saw athletes having to complete a 21km route consisting of jeep and single tracks that were running friendly and included magnificent views of the ocean and mountains, waterfalls and the pristine beauty of the Kogelberg biosphere.
