2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup supremo Liz Dawson has been elected President of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, as announced on Wednesday,13 October 2022.
Dawson who has previously been described as an outstanding advocate for sport and athletes, now becomes the first woman in 111 years to take charge of the organisation.

“I’m honoured to be taking up this role and look forward to supporting the experienced New Zealand Olympic Committee Board, management and staff, as they create an environment which allows our athletes and teams to excel and make our country proud at both Olympic and Commonwealth Games,” she said.
Dawson has been an NZOC Board member for 11 years now and has also directed the NZOC Integrity Committee.
In 2021, she was recognised by the International Olympic Committee’s Women in Sport Diploma for the work she has done over the years.
She was also in charge of organising, the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup, which took place against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic.
She was recommended for the role of President by an NZOC appointments panel and elected by the membership at a Special General Assembly in Auckland.
Her focus now will be to prepare for Paris 2024, in a build-up to the 2032 Brisbane Games.
