2023 Momentum gsport Awards Emerging Athlete of the Year finalist and rising cricketer, Madison Landsman, attributes her success to her family, especially her late dad, Glen.
On gsport’s X-Space on Thursday, 24 August, Landsman emotionally shared about her relationship with her father, who recently passed on.
Coping with her father’s loss has presented its challenges, underscoring the profound impact he had on both her personal life and cricket journey.
“It’s been really, really difficult. He has always been my biggest supporter and my best friend. It’s been an incredibly tough time, but my mom and my sister are these two super super strong ladies and the three of us have just been very strong together and the support from around us has been amazing.
“I used to play for Eastern Storm Women and they’ve been really awesome with their support and now I’m playing for Lions as well, they’ve been supportive. Coach Dinesha (Devnarain) from the Under 19 World Cup, she has been amazing, everyone actually,” she added.
“I live in Benoni, everyone knows everyone here, there’s a lot of Cricket going around and everyone loved my dad as well. Everyone has been really amazing with the support and that’s been very important especially now with trying to carry on because my dad was such a big part of my life.”
In 2019, Landsman was a finalist on the gsport stage and walked the red carpet with her dad, a memory she will hold onto for the rest of her life.
As she looks forward to this year’s 18th edition of Africa’s longest running women’s sport recognition platform, Landsman will be aiming to reap her rewards, after making history becoming the first hat-trick taker at the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.
Landsman, the Vice-Captain of the SA U19 Women’s team, garners further recognition as one of the Top 5 Most Valuable Players in the tournament, illuminating the brilliance of her journey.
