The Malawi Queens racked up their sixth win in the Cosana Tri-nations netball tournament when they defeated Namibia 49-36 to secure the trophy at the Kamuzu University of Health Science Sports Complex in Blantyre, Malawi on Thursday, 16 June 2022.
The Peace Chawinga-Kulua coached side outplayed the Desert Jewels of Namibia and the Zimbabwean Gems three times each.
Before yesterday’s match, the Queens had already won the competition with two games to spare but they still played with enthuasiasm to secure a clean sweep.
Their biggest victory was on Tuesday, 14 June when they massacred Namibia 77-25, whilst their lowest scoring victory was 47-35 against Zimbabwe who finished second with two wins over Namibia.
“This victory is our morale booster ahead of the Commonwealth Games next month. We just need to fine-tune our team before we depart for the games,” said Malawi head coach, Peace Chawinga-Kulua.
Despite finishing third, Namibia Desert Jewels recorded a surprising and well-earned 38-34 victory over Zimbabwe.
“We have a very good side and this tournament has been an eye-open and I look forward to the next challenge,” said Namibia Head coach, Sunette Burden.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Young Gems emerged as the U-19 champions recording three victories and a narrow 37-36 defeat to host Malawi.
