South African international star all-rounder Marizanne Kapp bagged the Perth Scorchers WBBL Player of the Year accolade at the WA Cricket Awards on Saturday, April 1, 2023.

Kapp was the star of Perth’s 2022–23 Weber Women’s Big Bash League campaign, providing a number of spectacular batting and bowling figures.

Despite frequently bowling with fielding restrictions in place, Kapp finished the WBBL|08 with the unmatched economy rate of 5.74.

The seasoned Momentum Proteas player took 12 wickets for 22.50 from 13 games that were completed, only giving up more than six runs per over five times.

While in full flight, she was also Perth’s most destructive specialist hitter, registering a strike rate of 143.12.

In addition to her top WBBL performance of 68 not out off 34 deliveries against the Melbourne Renegades, Kapp finished the season with 229 runs at 28.62.

The next day, she outdid herself against the Sydney Sixers at the same location, smashing 68 runs in 37 deliveries while combining for 97 runs with ace opener Beth Mooney.

Kapp is currently playing in the latest edition of the FairBreak Invitational in Hong Kong.

Retired Momentum Proteas cricketer, Mignon du Preez, also made headlines as she was named Player of the Tournament for the Hobart Hurricanes.
