South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp, Shabnim Ismail and Chloé Tryon were first round picks at the Women’s Big Bash League draft selection on Sunday, 3 September 2023.
Kapp was the first pick as she was snatched up by Sydney Thunder after Perth Scorchers elected not to use their retention on the Proteas superstar all-rounder.
The 33-year-old will feature in her third WBBL season, having also previously turned out for the Sydney Sixers.
In response to her selection, Kapp shared on X: “How good, back to Sydney where it all started for me! Thank you for having me Sydney Thunder.”
Ismail, who is one of the quickest bowlers in the world, will feature for the Hobart Hurricanes. She started her WBBL career with the Renegades, spent time with the Thunder then returned to her former Melbourne home for WBBL|08.
Making the switch from the Thunder to the Sixers, Tryon will be hoping to bring in her trophy winning good luck streak from bagging the Women’s Premier League and The Hundred titles into the WBBL.
While, Proteas Women interim captain Laura Wolvaardt returns to the Adelaide Strikers.
