Kenya’s Mary Moraa has earned herself the number one spot on the latest Senior African Women’s 800m rankings released on Tuesday, 22 November 2022.
Moraa represented Kenya at the 2022 World Championships, where she grabbed a bronze medal. She also grabbed gold at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
Second on the list is Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji, who won the 800m title at the 2018 World U20 Championships, breaking the championship record in the process. In 2021, she took silver in the 1500m at the World U20 Championships.
Moraa’s compatriot, Faith Kipyegon takes third place with a time of 1:58.18. Her last personal best time was 1:57.68 in 2020 at Doha.
South Africa’s Prudence Sekgodiso features fourth on the list with a time of 1:58.41. Sekgodiso has in the past claimed gold in 4 minutes 16.38 seconds in the women’s 1500m at the ASA Senior Track and field National Championships.
Rounding up top five is Hirut Meshesha from Ethiopia with a time of 1:58.54. She won a bronze medal in the 1500m race at the 2022 World Indoor Championships.
