New Super Netball franchise, the Melbourne Mavericks, have bolstered their technical team with the addition of Nicole Richardson, as they look ahead to their maiden season in the Suncorp Super Netball season.
The Australian Netball icon comes in as an assistant coach to head coach Tracey Neville.
Richardson says she’s excited and is relishing this opportunity: “I’m super excited to be joining the Melbourne Mavericks for the 2024 SSN Season.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to work alongside Tracey and the team and continue coaching in the world’s premier netball competition.
“I look forward to building connections with the athletes and help them to realise their potential. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.”
Richardson brings a wealth of experience and expertise, not only as a former player but also as the assistant coach to the Australian national team coach Stacey Marinkovich.
Mavericks General Manager of Netball Operations, Shae Bolton-Brown, said Richardson will impact the team’s inaugural season significantly.
“She’ll be a real asset to the team and bring significant experience, complimenting Tracey and the other coaches. We feel really lucky that she has chosen to be on our journey and become a Maverick.”
Both Marinkovich and Richardson were at the helm as Australia won the 2023 Netball World Cup hosted in Cape Town, South Africa.
Most recently, the former Diamond, was announced as the head coach of Australia’s Fast5 head coach with the tournament in New Zealand set to take place on the 11th and 12th of November. This means that Richardson will continue her national duty commitments.
The SSN season will begin in mid-2024.
