Colorado born skier, Mikaela Shiffrin, who found her passion for skiing at young age has just won her 83rd World Cup race, the most world cup wins by a woman skier.
Shiffrin had proven herself to be one to watch from the age of 14 already. In 2010, skiers from 40 nations had gathered to compete against one another at the Topolino Games in Italy and Mikaela won both events.
Shiffrin, aged 15, reached the minimum age requirement of FIS (International Ski Federation) to compete in more events. During December 2010, she competed in her 8th FIS-level event and won a Nor-Am Cup in British Columbia.
Soon after, Shiffrin was on the podium for the next three Nor-Am races: Victory in Slalom, third in GS and runner-up in a super-G. In January 2011, Shiffrin competed at the FIS Junior World Ski Championships held in Switzerland and went ahead to win the bronze medal.
She was no stranger to winning big awards at a young age. From the 2012 season until the 2022 season, Shiffrin had won the Slalom title at the US National Championships, won her first world cup race in 2012, super-G race and won gold in the Giant Slalom as well as silver in the Super Combined.
During 2018, Shiffrin made history when she won the super-G race in Lake Louise which made her the only alpine skier between the male and female contestants to win all six currently contested alpine skiing events. Shiffrin competed and won 4 medals at the 2021 World Championships, the most she has won in a single World Championship event.
The above-mentioned awards are just some of Shiffrins highlights throughout her skiing career. All these victories have led to her breaking Lindsey Vonn’s record for the most World Cup wins by a woman skier.
This will definitely not be the last time we hear about Mikaela Shiffrin, we patiently wait to see her win foue more races to break Ingemar Stenmark’s career record of 86 World Cup wins.
