Chloé Tryon and Nadine de Klerk’s fiery performances were not enough for the Momentum Proteas, as the South Africans fell 17 runs short in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up match against England at Coetzenburg Oval on Monday, 6 February 2023.
The Hilton Moreeng-coached side were chasing a competitive 247 for victory.
Laura Wolvaardt was struck early for 17 by English spinner Charlie Dean, which led to a ripple effect as Marizanne Kapp (9) and captain Suné Luus (8) followed suit
women.
However, the 98-run partnership between Tazmin Brits and Tryon helped the home side find their stride.
Tryon smashed 65 off 23, while Brits reached 38 off 28 balls.
After the partnership was broken, de Klerk came in with a quick, unbeaten half-century to keep the South Africans hopes alive.
The South Africans will play their final warm-up match against Pakistan at Boland Park on Wednesday, 8 January.
