The Momentum gsport Awards is more than just about winning on stage, it is also about the power of recognition where individuals are seen and celebrated for every milestone – that is exactly what took place at The Wanderers Club on Wednesday, 14 September 2022.
The awards ceremony welcomed guests – both young and old – from across the continent to honour their respective journey’s in women’s sport.
As winners dazzled the stage, there were those who did not walk away with an award in hand, but from the experience, they have gained confidence to continue striving to reach greater heights.
Rising Spar Protea, Tumi Mahloko, who was a finalist in the Style Star category, took to Instagram to share her experience, saying: “Firstly before anything else I want to mention @justtonightjosephine GORGEOUS DRESS 😭😍🔥I felt and looked amazing so thank you, thank you and thank you again for dressing me 🥺 Being nominated for the Style Star award was probably the most exciting thing that has happened to me in a while because I take pride in the way I look and present myself outside of court.
“I know a lot of athletes relate when I say our sports clothes are all we mostly wear and most comfortable in and how people recognise us.
“This nomination meant a lot because I was seen BEYOND the court 👑
“So thank you @gsport4girls @momentumza for the amazing nomination and thank you to EVERYONE for voting for me 🥺👑
“@t.iisetso_m my friend I literally asked you the day before to pull through with me to the awards because I knew what a crazy day I would be having and needed the help and you didn’t even hesitate, so for that, THANK YOU and I LOVE YOU TONS 💕”
Imperial African Woman in Sport Award finalist Jean Sseninde also took to social media to express her gratitude for the recognition as well the experience as a whole:
“This opportunity is only the beginning for us to do more to raise the standards, push smarter for our goals and lift others with us on the way. This is a commitment to continue inspiring young girls & boys into Football. Thank you!”
While, Telkom Woman of the Year finalist Ingrid Avidon celebrated her fellow finalists in the category:
“Wow what a night. A celebration of women in sport. What a privilege to stand alongside @bongiwemsomie and @andile_01_dlamini as a finalist in the Telkom Woman of the Year at the Momentum gsports Awards.”
The awards has certainly left a mark in the hearts of every individual who was invited to attend the ceremony. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for every one of them!
