Montjane Moves Up World Ranks after Pensacola Silver

Photo: The NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour on facebookSouth Africa’s wheelchair tennis ace Kgothatso Montjane continues to climb the ranks of the international circuit, her latest accomplishment winning silver after losing in straight sets but making eventual champ Marjolein Buis work hard for her win, in Sunday’s women’s singles final at the Pensacola Open.

Buis needed the best part of an hour to secure the opening set of the women’s singles final against world No. 10 Kgothatso Montjane of South Africa.

The Dutch world No. 5 and second-seed continued to face a tough challenge in the second set, but again won the big points to seal a 76(4) 63 victory and her first singles title of 2013 after reaching two semifinals in Australia in January.

Montjane ended a good week in the USA, claiming wins over German Katharina Kruger, Brazilian Natalia Mayara and world No. 11 Yui Kamiji – after the Japanese player had started the week by beating world No. 1, Aniek van Koot.
