Mountain Bike Challenge Results

Photo by Gallo ImagesNot even the rainy weather could dampen the official start of LifeCycle Week this weekend, as record numbers participated in the Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Mountain Bike Challenge.

Boschendal Wine Estate was jam-packed with cyclists and spectators.

Not even the entry limit increase from 2,000 to 2,500 riders was enough, as wannabe participants queued at the Dirtopia Trail Centre on Saturday in the hope to secure a late entry.

In the end, 2,900 riders braved the three routes: a 61% entry increase from 2006.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better course,” says Meurant Botha, organiser and trail builder of the MTB Challenge.

“We had just enough rain to soften up the route and get rid of the dust, but it wasn’t too muddy, which made for comfortable riding.”
