Stellenbosch – Stage Two of the Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails two-day mountain bike stage event closed off on a high note at the picturesque Blaauwklippen Wine Estate on Saturday, 28 November 2015.
According to Ariane Kleinhans, the Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails brings the mountain biking community closer together. “There is no hierarchy as it’s all about the trails and getting to enjoy the sport. The elite riders get to hang around afterwards and engage with people, this is very important.”
ISUZU MTB Academy Coach, Jo Dobinson was given the rare opportunity to participate with the academy riders. “Being able to ride with the guys was amazing. I was able to identify where they still need help. The weather conditions during stage one were extremely windy, so I used the opportunity to teach the guys how to ride in slip stream. Although I’ve only been working with them for ten months now, I can already see that their technical skills have improved. I’m thankful to ISUZU and Stillwater Sports for this awesome opportunity and for the support.”
Since its inception in 2013 the emphasis of this exciting two day mountain bike stage event has been on the route and the enjoyment thereof. “Our goal has always been to combine a vast network of world class trails with beauty and exclusivity, while raising funds to further trail building in Stellenbosch,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “A portion of every entry fee will go directly towards trail building and local organizations aligned around these trails. We trust that each rider had a memorable experience and we look forward to welcoming all riders back in 2016.”

Both stages started in front of the Hofmeyer Hall in Church Street and finished at the picturesque Blaauwklippen Wine Estate.
Stage One: Friday, 27 November 2015
Long Course: +-60km / Elevation 1750m and single track length 23.4km
Short Course: +- 31km / Elevation 850m
Stage Two: Saturday, 28 November 2015
Long Course: +-65km / Elevation 1700m and single track 17.1km
Short Course: +- 34km / Elevation 1000m
After each stage mountain bikers could look forward to either relaxing in the Windhoek Light Bar Area or the ISUZU Chill Zone.
Tim Ferreira was the lucky winner of a 2016 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp 6 Fattie that was up for grabs in the Specialized bike draw.
The Pennypinchers Origin Of Trails supports the Aitsa Aftercare Centre. During both stages the children showed their support on route by singing, blowing vuvuzelas and serving locally made koeksisters and/or vetkoek at the water point in Kylemore.
