The number 8 seemed significant for eight-year old Monica Botha at the TYR Westville Sprints Gala, held from 27-29 November 2015 at Kings Park swimming pool in Durban.
Monica swam 8 events, placed first in all of her events (Gold) and set 3 new swimming records.
This performance earned the most points in the female 8 & Under category, and she was rewarded a R250 TYR voucher for her efforts.
This is the second year that she held the title and received the prize.
2015 TYR Westville Sprints Meet Records:
- Girls 8 & under 100 m freestyle – 1:22:26 (2012 record stood at 1:24:87)
- Girls 8 & under 200 m individual medley – 3:20:80 (2014 record was Monica’s own at 3:29:50)
- Girls 8 & under 100 m backstroke – 1:33:36 (2013 record stood at 1:34:15)
