After two races, Mr Price Central Gauteng is well in the lead in the Spar Club Grand Prix competition, with 139 points, 18 ahead of their nearest rivals, Harmony Gauteng North.
Mr Price Central Gauteng’s dominance is largely the result of the outstanding performances by Rene Kalmer, who won the Spar challenge races in Port Elizabeth and Durban, and team-mate Poppy Mlambo, who finished second in Port Elizabeth and third in Durban.
However, Kalmer and Mlambo will both miss the third race, in Pretoria on August 25th, because of the World Championships in Japan, giving other teams a chance to make up lost ground.
Two juniors, Maxine Heine-Waker and Noria Sibanda, have been responsible for keeping Harmony Gauteng North in second position, and the absence of Kalmer and Mlambo may help the Pretoria Club move into first position after the third race in the series.
Third-placed Lekoa Athletics Club is well behind the leaders, with 48 points, followed by Mr Price KZN on 40, so the club competition appears to be a two-horse race. The winning club will pocket R7 500, the second-placed club R5 000, and the third-placed club receives R2 500.
The next race is in Pretoria on August 25, the fourth race in Cape Town on September 9 and the final race is in Johannesburg on October 14.
