Malawian international, Mwawi Kumwenda, inspired Melbourne Vixens to reach the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final when they defeated Giants 55-54 at the John Cain Arena in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday, 25 June 2022.

The top-notch Goal Shooter contributed 36 baskets from 37 shots, while her teammate Rahni Samason added 13 from 15, as Vixens shot at 91 per cent accuracy for the match.

Melbourne jumped into an early lead heading to the first quarter break at 15-7, before they were outscored 21-11 in the second quarter and 19-12 in the third.

The relentless accuracy of Kumwenda and Goal Attack Samason ensured the host’s extraordinary comeback outshining Giants 17-7 to seal a narrow 55-54 victory.

Vixens will travel west against West Coast Fever in the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final on Sunday, 3 July.

The Simone McKinnis-coached side will be chasing their second title in three seasons while West Coast will be seeking to end a 25-year premiership drought.
