Nadine Roos named the Springbok Women’s Player of the Year

Springbok Women and Springbok Women’s Sevens star Nadine Roos has been named the 2022 Springbok Women’s Player of the Year, as announced on Tuesday, 31 January 2023.

Roos was up against some fierce competition as she was nominated alongside Lusanda Dumke, Aseza Hele, Zintle Mpupha, and Aphiwe Ngwevu.

The 26-year-old had a fantastic year for both the Springbok Women and the Seven’s teams in two Rugby World Cup tournaments. Her hard work has since been rewarded, after she was included in the World Rugby Dream Team after the RWC Sevens in Cape Town in September 2022.

For the second year in succession, the OUTsurance Referee of the Year went to Aimee Barrett-Theron, who represented South Africa at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

Barrett-Theron also made her debut in the Vodacom URC, establishing her as one of the foremost women’s referees in the world.

President of SA Rugby Mr Mark Alexander congratulated the winners and applauded their achievements during a busy 2022 season.

“The New Year is already in full swing, but there is still a lot of rugby to be played.

“I would like to congratulate every winner on their awards and wish them well for the next year, but I would also like to thank all the players, young and old, their coaches and team management, match officials, administrators, all our loyal sponsors and all other role players for making 2022 a season to remember.”
