Johannesburg, Wednesday 30thAugust 2006 – The SPAR National Netball team assemble in Johannesburg this weekend to play in the third of a series of matches against five of the strongest provincial and league sides in the country as preparation for the Cosana Games.
In the first match of the tour at the Paarl Gymnasium School in May, the team beat the Western Cape Tornados 59-44. In July the team beat the Eastern Cape Comets 50-31 at the NMMU Indoor Sports Centre in Port Elizabeth.
On Saturday 2nd September the team will square up against the Gauteng Thunderbirds at 18h00 at the Walter Sisulu Hall in Randburg.
Captain Charlene Hertzog believes that this match will strengthen the team’s cohesion and improve their on-court communication as well as give them the opportunity to work with newly appointed coach, Burta de Kock.
“To beat the best in the world we need to play together more regularly against teams that will pose as a challenge to us. There is no doubt in my mind that our provincial sides can help do exactly that”.
Entrance to the match is free of charge and Netball fans are urged to show their support.
