For the first time since its inception the Pick ‘n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge presents an opportunity for the elite pelaton to make a concerted dash for the title on Sunday, with a new finish at Waterfall Equestrian Estate which includes a specially constructed tarred road to lead cyclists into the venue is very likely to take the sprinters out of the equation.
In the ladies’ race Konica-Minolta has the defending champion in Yolandi du Toit in their midst as well as South Africa’s most talented young gun, Cherise Taylor.
Taylor has already shown signs of being one of the best female cyclists that the country has ever produced, having finished second at the World Junior Championship Road Race during August.
"This is the most important race of the season for the Konica-Minolta team and we have prepared for it accordingly," said team manager John Robertson. "I’m really happy about the new finish. It makes the course a lot more difficult for the sprinters. We are looking forward to an exciting race on Sunday," he said.
The 11th annual Pick ‘n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge takes place on Sunday, 18 November 2007, starting on Woodmead Drive, between Maxwell Drive and Steenberg Avenue in Woodmead, and finishing just outside the Waterfall Equestrian Estate, on Maxwell Drive.
