It’s my birthday today, and I have been in Australia for almost two months now, and it has been pretty good. When I arrived in Australia before Christmas I went to the Gold Coast and it was really fun! We got some great small waves!
I stayed with a South African family, which makes being away from home that much easier. We also managed to go and check the Zoo out and it was fun, got to see some really cool animals, my cousins… Hah, jokes!
Christmas I spend with my close Australian friend Nicola Atherton and her family (my extended family in Oz). I have been spending Christmas with them for the last 3 years! Nothing changes in other parts of the World, during Christmas I still ate a lot and I don’t think I want to see another Turkey for a long time Hah!
I travelled to Narrabeen after Christmas for the Billabong World Junior Champs where I came 5th in a very close heat against Page Hareb who is a good friend of mine from New Zealand. I lost in the dying seconds of the heat, which is very hard, but what doest kill you only makes you stronger!
Move on … to meet up with no 6 in the World Aimee Donohoe who took me on a little road trip up the Coast to Ballina and on the way we stopped at no 4 in the Worlds home, Sam Cornish, in Crescent Head.
We all went and surfed together and had good waves in a really small town with just a couple of shops…its always nice to get away from the big cities! We also sandboarded and had a couple of braai’s or as the ozzies say barbecues…
The drive to Ballina was amazing, the coastline is so untapped and untouched… beautiful! Ballina was also cool but due to the cyclone that had hit them a while back the water was like poo!!!
Melbourne that is the place I flew to next as my 1st WQS took place down South. Phillip Island is an hour away from Melbourne where I met up with my very good friends and travelling companions all the South African girls on tour and we hired a car and drove to Phillip Island.
Phillip Island is great and we stayed in a beautiful house but I had a terrible and disappointing start to my second year on the WQS where I got knocked out in the round of 48… to make up for this I did exceptionally well in the Pro Juniors and came 3rd.
Surfing sometimes is a cruel game as you tend to loose more then win but it makes you stronger and hungrier for the next one…none of the other SA girls did that well either and we are all looking forward to bringing the trophies home next time!
It is my birthday today, I am turning 19. I was supposed to be back home but I decided to stay with my Australian friends in Ballina and later move to the Gold Coast to watch the Roxy Pro WCT where the top 17 girls will be battling it out for gold.
I will definitely be supporting my close friend Rosy Hodge from East London on her second year on the WCT. My next competition is in New Zealand early March followed by plenty others all over in Oz and will only be back home at the end of April!
Well I am missing everyone specially my family but I am happy here in this beautiful country called Australia… to the party I go and until we meet again! Cheers!!!
