At stake for the girls on Day Four of the O’Neill SA Junior Championships in Port Elizabeth are three national titles, and a contribution to the winning of the coveted Freedom Cup, which goes to the combined team which scores the highest combined points.
With just one day to go, the Freedom Cup title race is between Western Province, defending champions KZN, Border and hosts Eastern Province but it remains too early to predict an outright winner.
The six U18 Girls semi-finalists are defending champion Nikita Robb (Bor), Chantelle Rautenbach and Caylin de Reuck (both Bol), Tarryn Chudleigh and Lisa Mace (both WP) and Adele Nortje (Southern Cape).
The Under 12 girls who will contest the final are Nicole Pallet (KZN), Paige Meecham (Bor), Jenna Van Der Au (Southern Cape) and Caryn MacNicol (SKZN), while Tanika Hoffman and Holly Armstrong (both WP), Catherine Frey (Southern KZN), Jessica Swart (KZN), Faye Zoetmulder (EP) and Alice McGregor (Bor) are the U16 girls semi finalists.
Apart from the semi-finals and finals, the fifth day at the 2007 O’Neill SA Junior Championships will include a bit of fun as the traditional O’Neill Superfreak show brings the 12th SA Junior Championships to a close.
The final day of the tournament will see the crowning of these six champions and the awarding of the Freedom Cup and in addition the names of the 2008 SA Junior Surfing Squad will also be announced.
