Nikita Robb (East London) continues her form in the coveted ASP world junior surfing title at the R430 000 Billabong ASP World Junior Championships at North Narrabeen beach in Sydney, Australia.
Tammy-Lee Smith suffered the misfortune of becoming the first surfer eliminated from the event when she was relegated to third place in her second round match up with French girls Alize Arnaud and Lee Anne Curren.
Arnaud will come up against SA’s Nikita Robb in round three of the junior women’s event following Robb’s convincing first round victory yesterday.
The Billabong ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) World Junior Championship, now in its eight year, is increasingly recognised as the future of surfing, and attracts qualifiers from eight world regions.
Each of the representatives has won through grueling regional circuits, to earn their place among the top 45 junior men and 18 junior women in the world, a feat in itself.
The $US 62,000 ($AUD 80,000) prize purse qualifies the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships as the richest junior surfing event in the history of surfing.
