No Stopping Anriette in Fifth Win

 
Anriette Schoeman stormed to her third Cansa Lost City win on Saturday 25 August, 2007, making it her 5th Classic win this year. With her are (left) runner-up Lynette Burger, and third-placed Louise Murphy.
 
Team Proline Computers continued their dominance in ladies cycling when they won their third Classic in three weeks, and Anriette Schoeman proved to be back in form when she stormed to her third Cansa Lost City win on Saturday, making it her fifth Classic win this year.
 

Team CBIST and Team Cycle Lab dominated the first 17km’s of the race with several attacks being launched by this two teams. The sprint prime 47km into the race was won by Cherise Taylor (Konica/Minolta) with Marissa van der Merwe second, and Anriette Schoeman finishing third (Proline Computers).
 
Altie Clark (Cycle Lab) made her move immediately after the sprint when she launched an unexpected attack 47km into the race which ripped the ladies bunch to shreds.
 
Two bunches were formed with the main bunch being chased by a bunch of 11 ladies who were 20 seconds behind the main bunch. They however managed to close the gap 57km into the race.
 
They however had little time to settle as Marissa van der Merwe launched a vicious attack 61.2km into the race. Cherise Taylor, Lynette Burger (Harmony) and Schoeman reacted and went with Van der Merwe this attack left most of the ladies behind with 16 surviving the attack to form the main bunch.
 
Cherise Taylor and Marissa van der Merwe made their move 75 km into the race when they lifted the pace to an average of 37.8km/ph. They were joined by Anriette Schoeman, Engela Conradie, Jeanine Binneman, Malisha Manro, Luzanne Naude, Elzette Visagie, Louise Murphy, and Lynette Burger to form the break away group.
 
They were caught 85km into the race by Robin de Groot, Elsa Kartsten, Diane Emery and Altie Clark. At this stage it was clear that the bunch was not going to allow anybody to get away and the scene was set for a big bunch sprint.
 
Team CBIST made the first move when Luzanne Naude (CBIST) launched for the finish with 800m to go. Engela Conradie (Proline Computers) simultaneously attacked to the right.
Naude was chased down by Van der Merwe (Team Proline Computers) with Burger (Harmony) following with the rest of the bunch behind them in single file.
 
Schoeman made her move with 300m to go when she launched her sprint to the right following and passing Conradie to win the sprint in 02.46.18 with Lynette Burger second, Louise Murphy third, Cherise Taylor fourth and Marissa van der Merwe fifth, all in 02.46.19. Liefie Day finished sixth in 02.46.20.
